Books Info:

The Olive Groves of Almijara free pdf The Olive Groves of Almijara puts on record the life in a typical Andalucian mountain pueblo before it is invaded by tourism and real estate agents. The petty jealousies, clandestine affairs and long-hidden secrets of this close-knit community are beautifully described by internationally renown author, Drew Launay, who introduces us to an enviable way of life, unhurried, comfortable, and relaxing. You can practically taste the local wine, smell the goats and mules, and feel the harsh afternoon sun. The book was inspired by true events that happened in Frigiliana in southern Spain as well as anecdotes from the childhood of his Spanish wife, Maribel. It's a snapshot of an otherwise fairly undocumented period of time in a wonderful part of the country, and a testimony not only to the aesthetic beauty and meditative, drowsy atmosphere of Frigiliana but also the hospitable spirit, kindness and eccentricity of its people. Drew Launay, moved to Andalucia in 1969 with his family and were only the second foreign family to move to the sleepy town of Frigiliana at a time when Franco still ruled Spain. He was absorbed by the way of life, particularly in contrast to the hectic pace of the city he had left behind in London.

About Drew Launay

Drew Launay (1930 - 2013) was an author, playwright, humourist and broadcaster, writing under his real name, Andre Launay, but also Drew Launay, Andrew Laurance and Drew Lamark. Born in London of French parents, he was educated in England, finished in France and escaped the pressures of London to write full time in Nerja, Spain. After early years in the family meat business he escaped to the Windmill Theatre in London's West End to write the screen play for 'Yes we have no Pajamas'. He then wrote over 50 books from family dramas, psychic thrillers, humour and travel books to some of the popular Xenophobe and Bluffer's Guides. For a time Drew even wrote scripts for UK films and television. He was also well known in the USA, in particular for his occult books, and labelled as 'the spine chilling master of occult horror'. His experience of life in Spain, as well as inspiration from the recollections of his Spanish wife, Maria Isabel Rodriguez, resulted in two particularly well received books, The Olive Groves of Almijara, and The Maestro of Almijara."
