About Rev Tracie Ann Saunders MD

Rev. Dr. Tracie Saunders is an Anesthesiologist, ordained minister, and author of the book Spirit of Courage: Letting Go of Abandonment, Shame, and Hurt. She is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Assistant Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Medicine and has been an Attending Anesthesiologist at SUNY Stony Brook University Medical Center (SBMC) since 1995 after completing her anesthesiology residency at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Medical Center in New York City. She specializes in high risk Obstetric Anesthesiology, is a founding member of the Resource Center for Spirituality and Health Care Education at SBMC, and serves on the SBMC Institutional Ethics Committee. She also enjoys sharing her unique perspective with 2nd year medical students as a faculty member for the Medicine in Contemporary Society II course at SBMC. Dr. Saunders was ordained in the Gospel Ministry at Faith Baptist Church, Coram, New York in 2010 and was called to be the Assistant Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Southold, New York in January, 2014. Dr. Saunders earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics at Spelman College, Atlanta, Georgia, a medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine, and a Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary of New York City. She was awarded the Maxwell Fellowship from Auburn Seminary given to those seminary students who show the promise of excellence in future service in parish ministry. She recently participated in a Christian medical mission in Kitwe, Zambia where she was able to minister to the people through the healing of souls and bodies in Christ Jesus. She has been married to her husband, Eric, Sr. for 28 years and they have been blessed with two wonderful children, Amanda and Eric, Jr.
