They were labeled as "stout porters" but eventually, porter was dropped from the label and stout became its own unique dark brew, distinctively made with roasted barley. Chad Polenz was born in Schenectady in 1976. He earned his associate's degree in Journalism from SUNY Morrisville in 1997 and then worked as a local reporter until early 2001 when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where served six and a half years active duty, most of it stationed on the USS Wasp (LHD-1) based out of Norfolk, Virginia. He then earned his Bachelor's degree from University of Albany. He is a professional network administrator. Chad is best known for his very popular beer website and his column with the Albany Times-Union. He is an avid home brewer, and a popular speaker. He has visited dozens of breweries all over the world.
