Books Info:

Shanghai Passenger free pdf Shanghai Passenger follows Ruby, a young Scottish writer who has just landed in Shanghai, as she attempts to write her first novel in the world's most exciting metropolis. Having found her new best friend Rose and fallen in love with Roman, it seems that life couldn't be better. Until it stops being better. The novel weaves the ancient story of Zhuangzi's Dream of the Butterfly with a coming-of-age story that is laced with satirical bite. With the inimitable whore of the Orient as its backdrop, Shanghai Passenger is also an exploration of fast-paced development at a pivotal moment in Chinese history.

About Lucy Brydon

Lucy Brydon was born in Edinburgh in 1984. A prolific creative talent, Lucy writes novels and is the writer/director of several independent films that have been included in international festivals. After graduating from Warwick University with a First Class BA (Hons) in English Literature and Creative Writing, Lucy moved to Shanghai in 2005. Initially, she taught English as a foreign language at Shanghai Foreign Language School on behalf of the British Council. Finding the city intoxicating, Lucy decided to stay on after what was only planned to be a year. In 2006, she began to pursue a career in writing for magazines and television shows while studying Mandarin part-time. Around that time, Lucy worked briefly as a token Western hostess in a nightclub to pay her rent and fund her creative endeavours. The bizarre but heady life of a barfly proved to be the inspiration for her first novel, Shanghai Passenger. In 2010, Lucy moved to New York to attend Columbia University's prestigious Film MFA programme with a concentration in Directing. Her work has been honoured by such organisations as New York Women in Film and Television, Sundance, and the Arts Council England. Lucy is currently based in London, where she is working on her second novel and developing her debut feature-length film.
