Books Info:

Our Friends, the Enemy free pdf Our Friends, The Enemy is a debut solo show combining theatre and spoken word to tell the story of the Christmas truce from the First World War. Having been fascinated by the story of the Christmas truce, Alex Gwyther initially wrote the piece as a spoken word poem, which he has performed in front of a thousand strong audience at the Mayor of London's Week of Peace. He has also been invited to perform at a Remembrance Service in aid of Help for Heroes and St. Dunstan's Charity on three separate occasions. Gwyther realised how undocumented these incredible stories were and the writing was further developed with the assistance of Apples and Snakes. More recently, Director Tom O'Brien has joined the project and has worked with Gwyther to create a one hour long play.

About Alex Gwyther

Alex Gwyther is a published writer and spoken word artist. His poetical prose weaves down-to-earth tales of life in Britain to the poignant re-telling of the 1914 Christmas Truce during the First World War. Gwyther's unique delivery and "tumbling urbane style" has seen him perform across the country at venues, festivals and events such as Oxford University, the Royal Festival Hall, Latitude Festival and The Mayor of London's Week of Peace in Trafalgar Square. He has been specially commissioned to write for a number of organisations, businesses and charities including: BBC Radio 1, Mastercard, Transitions Global, The Southbank Centre and The Book People. Gwyther's first poetry collection was published last year on Luke Wright's Nasty Little Press. He has also been published by Burning Eye, in their 2012 anthology, Rhyming Thunder. His first solo theatre play, Our Friends, The Enemy was selected as part of New Wimbledon Theatre's Fresh Ideas season and saw a sell out run in early 2013. Following this, it will be doing a full run in the Space @ Surgeon's Hall at this year's Edinburgh Festival.
