This book will begin to heal you! The book is structured to evoke the emotional states necessary to recover from oppression and teach by example the survival skills needed to stay safe from social predators. _________________________________________ "Hide and Play Dead" is a memoir and nonfiction novel that represents a quantum leap in writing technology, healing methodologies, and social engineering. The work lays a foundation for a paradigm shift in the biosocial sciences that will be developed over a planned series of books. This autobiographical novel is interwoven with the real-time adventure story of my liberation from ancestral patterns based on slavery. The flow, from the beginning and up to the joyous conclusion of the book, appears as a seamless cinematographic stream with an unforgettable true storyline. It is a riveting expose and psychological thriller filled with international intrigue and startling revelations uncovering inside secrets of the black aristocracy and Intelligentsia, renowned educational institutions, and the field of medicine. This book dares to free readers from oppressive imprints using advanced neuropsychological principles applied to the process of reading. Real people, real pain, real discovery and real adventure into the unknown are the cornerstones of self-healing that I both experience and personify. Moving anecdotes, irony and sardonic humor, innuendoes and mysterious dangling phrases, metaphor and symbolism, poetic prose, mythological references, allegorical and mystical depictions, auditory, visual and onomatopoetic leitmotifs, and a stark self-revealing stance produce a level of excitement that is necessary to break traumatic patterns in the reader, as well as to create a literary masterpiece. "Hide and Play Dead" is also a bold critique that challenges systems of social oppression, including racism, dysfunctional parenting, predatory relationships, educational elitism, homophobia, and physician corruption under the tyranny of "the business model." It highlights the ultimate threat to democracy: global neoslavery under the rulership of a corporate elite, and galvanizes the populist resistance to this crisis that emerged in the past two presidential elections. OVERVIEW OF THE PLOT This is my story of being a mixed race African-American growing up as the solo child desegregationist in a conservative North mid-Western city in the 1960's, whose dysfunctional family represents the pinnacle of the black aristocracy. I escape the racial violence and domestic turmoil by going to the nation's most elite private schools, where I excel academically but fail to fit in socially-replicating my parent's own histories of child prodigy and abandoned half-Jewish orphan. I come out of the closet as an openly gay man while attending Harvard Medical School and become an iconoclastic alternative healer. I narrate my series of ten toxic "marriages" to narcissists and other social predators, and my "work" as I witness the corruption and collapse of the field of medicine. I reach a crisis point and realize that I must write a truthful account of my history to fully recover from a lifetime of trauma. Dramatic real-time events occur as I write the book, highlighted by the rediscovery of my ancestral roots and the after-effects of slavery upon my life's course and ident

About Michael King

BIOSKETCH: MICHAEL HOLLOWAY KING, MD Although my interest in biopersonality and consciousness began with studies at the Phillips Exeter Academy, the turning point towards topics of integrative health happened at age seventeen when I was a sophomore at Harvard College. I traveled to Haiti and had a personal experience of voodoo that converted me from an "arch-scientist" to an open-minded mystic who was devoted to learning everything possible about human states of consciousness. I have had an eclectic training and many decades of experience across a broad spectrum of healthcare and communication skills. I have a bachelor's degree from Harvard College (1975), and a medical degree from Harvard Medical School (1980). As a psychology major in college, I studied social, developmental, cross-cultural, and neuropsychology-- and especially "biopersonality" and "consciousness." I then pursued training in neuropsychiatry and international public health in medical school. Subsequently, I focused on mind-body psychotherapy in my private alternative medical practice, and also worked in virtually every aspect of conventional primary care. I have studied almost any reputable healing modality imaginable, from bodywork to biofeedback, and from neurolinguistics to Shamanism. But I specialized in techniques for consciousness alteration, trauma resolution and emotional intelligence training. Studying what was already known has always been less appealing to me than exploring the vast realm of the unknown-- or the mystery of possibility. So I invented, tested and refined entirely new approaches to mind-body healing during the past twenty-five years. I am the first physician, or biologically trained researcher, to address the topic of shame and social oppression, pinpoint their vast psychobiological roots, and devise a treatment program for their toxic ramifications. I also developed expertise in advanced reading and writing technology, listening skills, and public speaking by working as a corporate communications skills trainer. I have been a national lecturer on stress management and frequent host and guest for radio-producing over twenty hour-long shows on alternative medicine, medical anthropology, shame and other topics. Although I am skilled in writing technology, my writing has primarily been a private hobby. So, formally, I am a first-time writer and "Hide and Play Dead" is my first published work, with two sequels waiting the propitious moment to be released.
