About Michael Butterworth

Michael Butterworth was one of the most respected editors and scriptwriters at Fleetway Publications in the 1950s and 1960s, creating a series of hugely successful new titles ranging from the nursery comic Playhour to the first teenage girls magazine, Honey. As a scriptwriter his creations included the classic Rise and Fall of the Trigan Empire with artist Don Lawrence. He later wrote a number of critically acclaimed crime novels and, under a variety of pen-names, best-selling gothic romances. Frank Bellamy was one of the greatest if not the greatest comic strip artist of his time. His comic strips for Swift show the talent that was later to flourish in the pages of Eagle where he was to draw many groundbreaking strips, including biographies of Winston Churchill and Montgomery of Alamein and the adventures of Fraser of Africa and Heros the Spartan- later strips included Thunderbirds for TV Century 21 and Garth for the Daily Mirror. This book is a testament to the the greatness of this famous British strip and the artists who drew it. 110 works of original art beautifully reproduced.
