Books Info:

Landfall 216: Utopias free pdf To think about utopias is to think about history - as the messy accumulation of partly realised visions of the future, rather than a sequence of events. Traces of these visions - colonial, socialist and economic projects - can be found in our cities and communities, our by-laws, and between the pages of books. Landfall 216 sets out to remind us of them. What settler made landfall without the least thought of utopia, big or small, new society or new life? Have these ideals failed, or do they live on? What price do they come at, and who ends up paying that price? This issue will take us to places that might be, or might have been: Seoul and Carterton, the suburbs of Auckland and the cities of East Germany, as well as other places that are not easily located on a map.

About Tim Corballis

Tim Corballis is a fiction writer with an interest in people and place. He is a graduate of Victoria University's Creative Writing Programme and held the 2005 Creative New Zealand Berlin Writers' Residency. Corballis describes his work in Below and in more recent projects as "a sort of landscape writing which moves beyond issues of national identity and into issues of personal identity. That is, in the relationship between a person and their place, in ways this effects connections with others, with ourselves, our histories, our memories -- not as New Zealanders, but as people."
