Mastering the Craft free pdf The book, traces the life and cricketing career of the last surviving member of the famous three W's, the trio of Sir Everton Weekes, Sir Frank Worrell and Sir Clyde Walcott, who all made their debut in 1948 in England. When his career was over, Sir Everton had played in 48 Test matches and scored 4,455 runs for an average of 58.61. One of his most famous feats was scoring five centuries in five consecutive innings. He was then run out within ten runs of the sixth. The Prime Minister of Barbados, Owen Arthur, has described the publication as an intellectual tour de force. Sir Everton Weekes writes: 'I had emerged from the Bridgetown poor and by force of hard work, a focused mind, a scientific approach to my craft, I reached a position which the experts said was the top of the world.'These words epitomise the dedication and application a young man brought to bear on his desire for success in his chosen work. Sir Everton continues: 'By the age of 16, my personal law of batting was clear- if you hit the ball on the ground they would not be able to catch you. I was therefore not an air force man but a ground soldier.' 'At about ten or so, when my cricket began to take shape, I discovered how rules were liberating rather than oppressive because the more I applied them, the greater were my results.'Some would say these were the thoughts and words of one ahead of his time, of a genius in the making. Whatever the explanation, one thing is certain, such thinking demonstrates that effort applied to wholesome activity has worthy rewards.
