Books Info:

The Home Front free pdf For over four years, the people of North Otago joined others throughout the British Empire to work for victory in what they called 'The Great War'. They sent their young men to the battlefields, mourned for those killed, and welcomed home those who were sick and wounded. They raised money for all manner of causes, from kitting out hospital ships to helping the poor of Europe. Girls and women knitted and sewed to make sure their soldiers were well equipped. Some people prospered, while others struggled with rising prices. They had their differences of opinion, but all were agreed that they were lucky to be in the southern Pacific Ocean far away from the death and destruction.
