Living in the most segregated city in the South, she experienced the waning of segregation and the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement as a young child and into her teenage years.Georgia had the opportunity to go to West Africa with Crossroads Africa during the summer between her sophomore and junior years of college at Tuskegee Institute. This was a life changing experience for her. One day during her senior year, while walking across Tuskegee's campus, she saw a poster which read "If you love your country, leave it." Following the arrow on the poster, she ended her walk at a Peace Corps recruiting station. This led to her work assignments with the Peace Corps and later the Department of Defense Dependent Education System for over 35 years. She has worked on four continents: Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. Over time, she adopted an African girl and married an Englishman.
