Police, Race and Culture in the 'New Ireland' PDF ePub eBook

Books Info:

Police, Race and Culture in the 'New Ireland' free pdf This book explores the relationship between the Irish police and ethnic minorities, made particularly pressing by the rapid ethnic diversification of Irish society. It addresses the current deficit in knowledge of this area by exploring how Irish police officers conceive of, talk about, and interact with Ireland's immigrant minority communities. It focuses on the key experiences of Irish police officers, and the discourses they draw on to make sense of now policing a multicultural society. In doing so, Police, Race and Culture in the 'new Ireland' provides the first ethnography of Irish police officers and social change as An Garda Siochana's essential cultural role and foundational national symbolism is being reconfigured in the 'new Ireland'. The book will be of great interest to scholars and practitioners of policing, as well as those working on ethnography, and race and culture in Ireland.
