Books Info:

Rainbowy Friends free pdf This delightful, simplistic book is an introduction to racial tolerance designed for young children. With adorable drawings obviously created by a child, it introduces the skin color differences among various races. However, the child narrator finds similarities among all people and chooses to think of all people as potential "rainbowy friends" who are more alike than not inside, where it matters. With diversity and tolerance of all people being such important concepts today, this book is a "must-have" for all libraries, classrooms, daycares, and children's homes! Note from the author to the adults in a child's life: This book arose from the pictures of "rainbow people" my daughter began drawing at age three and a conversation regarding skin colors we had when she was four. It was truly inspiring to learn that she had not yet classified people by skin color and that she had to think very hard to determine the skin colors of people we knew. Instead, she readily described people as "the boy who likes dinosaurs," "the one that gets in trouble a lot," and "the girl that sings well." It is in no way my intention to belittle the importance of our ethnic backgrounds and cultures in our lives. It is simply to instill in the very young the fact that although we have various skin colors and cultures, they are not our sole definition. Rather, we are all people first, we share more in common than not, and we ought to be noticed for our actions and choices more than by the physical characteristics with which we are born. I hope this simple book opens an enlightening dialogue between your child and his/her greatest influence - you.
