Historic Rings free pdf This deluxe book introduces the finest, most exhaustive private collection of finger rings in the world: the Hashimoto Collection. Organised chronologically by culture, it begins with the Ancient Mediterranean World, and progresses through Byzantine and Mediaeval Europe through the Renaissance, 17th to 19th Centuries, Art Nouveau, Belle Epoque, Art Deco, major 20th century European and American designers and artist jewellers, and concludes with rings from major civilisations in the Middle East, the Far East, the Americas and Africa. The collection features many well-known important and rare pieces, such as an amethyst scarab set in a gold wire hoop with beads at the shoulders, which dates from the 12th-13th Dynasties of the Egyptian Middle Kingdom and is the only extant example in the world- a ring containing a lock of Marie Antoinette1s hair- a ring featuring a miniature self-portrait by the eighteenth century German artist Anton Mengs, court artist to Charles III of Spain, inscribed with his name- an Islamic signet ring highly valued by experts- modern pieces from major designers such as Harry Winston, Cartier, Van Cleef and Arpels, Tiffany, Carvin French, Georg Jensen, Chanel, and others. Each ring is illustrated with one or more black and white photograph, with 500 superb colour photos of the most important pieces. Major trends in ring design are outlined, and explanations and anecdotes are given on many of the individual rings. Supplementary images provide additional visual reference for the historical context. Furthermore, for each ring the original catalogue estimated value and the auction hammer price are given, making this book a unique "encyclopaedia" for scholars, experts, collectors and dealers.
