India's National Security free pdf This book is an independent project co-sponsored by the National Security Council Secretariat and Confederation of Indian Industry. This is the third volume in the series, which was started in September 2000. The previous two volumes were widely acclaimed by the members of the strategic community in India and abroad. The present volume, apart from reviewing global security trends and the external and internal security environment of India, undertakes an in-depth examination of the challenges to India's military modernization, economic security, and problems of self-reliance in defence technologies. In addition, it focuses on some non-traditional security issues like health hazards, urbanization, and climate change and their security implications for India. About Satish Kumar

Professor Satish Kumar is one of the most eminent Indian scholars in the field of International Relations. He was Professor of Diplomacy, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, until 1998. He held the MEA Chair, United Service Institution of India, New Delhi (1998-99) and the India Chair, University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Tashkent (1996-98). He was also Visiting Professor in International Relations, University of Turin, Italy (1990)- Visiting Fellow, Institute of International Studies, University of California, Berkeley (1978)- Visiting Fellow, School of Advanced International Studies at the John Hopkins University, Washington DC (1978). He represented India in the Peace and Security session of the United Nations Regional Conference organised by the UN Regional Office, Bangkok, at the UN University, Tokyo, in September 1999. He has participated in international conferences in Brazil, Switzerland, Denmark, US, Norway and Yugoslavia. He was Director, Indian Foreign Service Probationer's Training Course conducted by the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi (1972-82). He is a member of the Indian delegation to the ongoing India-Pakistan Track II dialogue called the 'Neemrana Initiative'. He has delivered lectures regularly on problems of defence and foreign policy at National Defence College, New Delhi- Defence Services Staff College, Wellington- College of Combat, Mhow. He has delivered several special lectures at the universities of Illinois, Columbia, Heidelberg, Geneva, Malta, London and Guangzhou. He is the author of several books on international affairs.
