Books Info:

In Search of the Liberal Moment free pdf The intellectual history of liberalism in twentieth-century France is typically written as the history of an absence. But while liberal voices were sometimes marginalized, there were few points at which liberalism did not contribute to the French political debate in this period. From the 1970s, however, there occurred a significant broadening of interest in liberal ideas among French intellectuals spanning from the second left to the new right. This involved both the rediscovery of nineteenth-century authors like Tocqueville and Constant and the importation (and contestation) of contemporary neoliberal ideas from Britain and the United States. Written by some of the leading French and Anglophone scholars working on this topic today, In Search of the Liberal Moment: Democracy, Anti-totalitarianism and Intellectual Politics in France since 1950 opens a series of challenging new perspectives on the origins, development and legacy of France's late twentieth-century liberal moment.
