Books Info:

The Gold on Board U-534 free pdf WW2 German U-Boat U-534 was sunk off the coast of Denmark in May, 1945 by liberators of RAF 86 Squadron, Coastal Command on the day that hostilities had officially finished in Europe. However, the captain of U-534 was not showing a surrender flag as ordered, and refused to surrender even after being depth charged. Neither would the captain dive his submarine as had the other two submarines that were travelling with him, both of which had escaped, but not before the gunners on all three U-boats shot down one of the liberators killing all but one crew member. Eventually, the second liberator 'George' dropped a stick of depth charges that finally caused the U-534 to sink. All but three of the crew escaped, but there seemed to be two extra passengers. Who were they, and where had this U-Boat been going? In 1993 U-534 was recovered by Karsten Ree, a Danish millionaire, and was taken to Denmark and stripped...no gold or valuables were found on board, and shortly after it was sent to the Maritime Museum in Birkenhead, U.K. In 2007 the story of U-534 came to the attention of two German friends who had lived in Spain for many years who realised that not only were they the only two people left alive in the world who knew that there was gold still on the submarine, but they also knew exactly where it was! They decided to go and get it before it was discovered when the U-Boat was cut up before it was moved to a new location! Read this fascinating story, and go and see the U-534 for yourself. She has now been cut into four parts and is at the Woodside Visitor Centre in Birkenhead - minus her gold of course!
