Mission Betrayed free pdf Blind ambition and fierce nationalistic pride meet at the crossroads in a small Caribbean nation. The result is disillusionment and death. There is the death of dreams, death of a perceived idealistic national destiny, and death pure, simple and merciless. Stoked by the anti-imperialistic pro-communist dogma of his university-educated mentor and boyhood friend, Comrade (Leroi) finds himself embroiled in the revolution fostered by the charismatic Maurice Bishop to rid his beloved island home of a government perceived by many to be oppressive and corrupt. Prodded by his persuasive mentor, he goes as far as arresting and incarcerating his very own father, all in the name of the beloved revolution. The "revo" quickly degenerates. The instability creates a climate ripe for U.S. intervention. A 'rescue mission' ensues. Launched by the 82nd Airborne and ostensibly aimed at the retrieval of American medical students based on the island, it crushes the uprising. By the time the proverbial dust has settled, the "revo" is no more. Wrought with regret and its accompanying disillusionment, Comrade is left to find his own way forward through the anguish of tears and regret, broken promises, and broken bodies littering the lush landscape. David Franklyn succeeds in placing us smack dab in the center of this tale of betrayal and political intrigue. The tug on the emotions is real, the lessons sobering. A highly recommended read.
