About Alex Staines

Born in Auckland in 1962, Staines took the stage with his poems for the first time in 1984 at David Mitchell's famous Globe Hotel poetry nights, where he met and toured with John Pule, Sandra Bell, Piet Nieuwland and Kim Blackburn. He co-founded Poetrycorp, which included Apirana Taylor, in Wellington in 1988. Poetrycorp toured widely and gained a 'cult' following. Seclusion Data is Staines' third poetry volume, following Warning (with Mike Eager), 1990- and The Slow Road to Gore, 2003. Staines made a short film, The Voice of Foxton (2002), which screened at film festivals in NZ and Canada.
