Books Info:

Esther's House free pdf For twenty years Esther Gelderblom and her friend Katjie, backyard dwellers in Oudtshoorn, have been on the waiting list for government houses. When new houses are built, they think their time has finally come. What they don't know is that Mr Louis, head of housing, is rearranging the names on the list: those who pay him benefit. When Katjie's shack burns down, the women's desperation peaks and they decide to occupy the empty houses illegally, triggering events that will compromise everything they hold dear. Lurking in the shadows is Titty, a vulnerable young alcoholic who needs the older women but whose decisions turn them against her. Esther's daughter Liedjie, who plays the keyboard for the Bless Me Jesus church and is studying for matric at night school, falls in love with Robert, whose romantic appearance belies a dark, unforgivable secret. Meanwhile, rolling around with a cigarette and a drink is Neville, Esther's husband, boss of the house' despite hiding when a shack lord arrives to evict them. Esther's House is a South African story of greed, murder and lies that are overcome when good people draw a line and fight for what is right.
