The strategies and activities will support struggling readers and enhance existing skill to encourage improvement in all students' reading skills.The objective of reading instruction in grades K-3 is not only to enable students to read fluently and independently, but most importantly, to read with comprehension. By understanding what they've read, students are better able to remember, communicate, and apply the information they've gained through reading. This book addresses the strategies that proficient readers need in order to unlock the meaning of written material. Elaine K. McEwan is an educational consultant with The McEwan-Adkins Group, offering professional development for educators to assist them in meeting the challenges of literacy learning in Grades Pre K-6. A former teacher, librarian, principal, and assistant superintendent for instruction in several suburban Chicago school districts, Elaine is the award-winning and best-selling author of more than three dozen books for educators. She received her undergraduate degree in education from Wheaton College and advanced degrees in library science (MA) and educational administration (EdD) from Northern Illinois University. McEwan lives with her husband and business partner, E. Raymond Adkins, in Oro Valley, Arizona. Between them, Elaine and Ray have five children, fifteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
