While the intended audience does not necessarily consist of readers with a scientific background, the book will be organized in such a way that it can be read at two different levels, with some chapters that require no prior knowledge of mathematics, and some others that explore more advanced material. All key mathematical notions will be introduced and explained.

About Matilde Marcolli

Matilde Marcolli is Professor of Mathematics at the California Institute of Technology and Distinguished Visiting Research Chair at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. She has published 4 monographs and over 70 research articles in mathematical physics, noncommutative geometry, algebraic geometry, number theory, operator algebras, and topology. In recognition of her scientific contributions, she was an invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians (2010) and the European Congress of Mathematics (2008).
