About Randolph O'Hara

Randolph O'Hara (1938-2011), MBE, was born in Burma (Myanmar) and as a young man fled an unstable family life and impoverished conditions to start a new life in Hong Kong. He joined the Hong Kong government in 1967, retiring in 1999. During his career he played a pivotal role in the development of local cultural facilities in the former British colonial administration. Mr. O'Hara continued his involvement in Hong Kong cultural life on a voluntary basis, following retirement, as a director of the Hong Kong Ballet, until deteriorating health finally forced him to relinquish this position. O'Hara was the author of four of works of fiction set in Burma, including The Homecoming, Memories from Afar, Fragments from the Past and The Golden Land.
