Books Info:

Sonny's Fort free pdf Sonny's Fort is a window into the life and adventures of a young boy and his family who lived on Fort Sumter. Much has been written about the Civil War history of this small island in Charleston Harbor, but little is known about the residents who called this island home. The story takes place during the early years before and during World War Two. It is reminiscent of a Tom Sawyer adventure, but tells another interesting role Fort Sumter has played in our history. As you follow Sonny during the two years he lived on the Fort, you'll encounter some interesting characters Not all human, but ghostly apparitions that still haunt this old Fort. And Capers, the delightful Gullah speaking old black fisherman, whose humor and wisdom is an inspiration to the whole family. There is King, the huge black dog, that Capers said was a Devil Chaser and possessed of the Black Wolf Spirit. A flash of movement reveals Moon, the mysterious cat that roams the Fort and is said to be in league with the Fort's old ghost. You'll feel the fear as the sea breaches the Fort's low back wall during the hurricane of 1940 and the family struggles to escape the rising water. Their place of refuge in a lower room of Battery Huger has become a trap. The heroic efforts of the father may lead them to safety but they must leave the big dog behind. While Sonny agonizes over this, King is turned out into the storm to fight for his life. ... Don't miss the excitement!
